Solar FAQ

  • How Do I Maintain My Solar Power System?

Solar modules require little to no maintenance. All installations come with a digital monitoring application to watch for system status and energy production levels.

  • How Long Do Solar Modules Last?

Properly installed, solar modules typically last 30 to 40 years when checked periodically.

  • What If I Need To Replace My Roof?

Prior to installation your roof should be in good condition. Should your roof need repair, please contact us to provide a quote for removal and reinstallation of your solar panels.

  • Do I Need To Connect My System To The Grid?

In Alberta, solar power systems are typically connected to the grid through a bidirectional meter. This setup allows you to send excess energy generated by your solar panels to the grid, while also ensuring you have access to grid electricity during times when our solar production is low. The bidirectional meter tracks the flow of electricity in both directions, so you are only billed for the net amount of electricity you use.

  • Should I Be Concerned About Hail Or Snow?

Solar modules are designed for high durability, and hail damage is rare. The way panels are installed reduces the chances of a direct, perpendicular strike. In the case of heavier snowfall, the panels may be covered for a short period of time, but this usually happens during the months with the least sunlight, so the overall impact on power generation is typically minimal. Terralta recommends contacting your personal insurance provider prior to installation, to ensure your system is covered.

  • Can Solar Panels Offset My Whole House?

Yes they can, if your system is sized correctly. We will analyze your energy use to determine how many panels you will need to achieve this.
