HAT Smart 2021

Since 2008, the HAT Smart program has become a popular and award-winning City of Medicine Hat environmental initiative. It serves to educate consumers, as well as promote energy conservation and renewable energy initiatives in our community in an economical way.

With 330 days of sun every single year, Medicine Hat is the ideal location to utilize renewable energy through solar panels. As members of Solar Energy Society of Alberta (SESA) and Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA), in addition to the Medicine Hat Construction Association (MHCA), Terralta is the most reliable, affordable and knowledgeable experts in solar panel installation.

 Here are 3 reasons why you’ll want to go Solar and utilize the HAT Smart program this year.

1. Rebates

   First things first, you can receive rebates of $1/watt up to $6,000. That could be up to 30% of your entire installation cost.

   Since the launch of HAT Smart, there have been 216 rebates awarded, totalling $929,884.56 with an average rebate of $4,305.02 per project.

   Depending on the size of your home or project, you will not have to spend thousands of dollars. However, it is good to know that if you decide to invest in more renewable energy, there will be a significant amount of dollars soaring right back into your pocket. If initial funding is a concern, Terralta also offers financial options through ATB. 

2. Process 

   Terralta makes the entire process easy and worry-free. They will handle the submission process, from initial planning and design right through to approval, in addition to all permits and Micro Generation (MG) applications.

3. Time

   The HAT Smart deadline is December 21, 2021. If last year taught us anything, it’s that time can sure fly by us. The sooner you start planning, the better. Not to mention that these rebates are offered on a first come, first serve basis. Depending on demand, these rebates won’t be around until all the way until December - and that deadline is for final installation, not just the application. 

   Last year, the HAT Smart rebates ran out within the 2 months of launching.
