Achieve Net-Zero For Your Local Community With Solar Panels
In a world that you can be anything, why not start with achieving Net-Zero status? Sounds good right? Wait, you’re asking yourself what Net-Zero means? Let our team at Terralta help shine a light on why municipalities and towns are looking into how they can achieve a Net-Zero status in 2021.
What does being considered Net-Zero mean?
Net-Zero is a term that is meant to describe how all of the energy used by a home or community is equal to the renewable energy created.
How could your community achieve a Net-Zero status?
Installing solar panels is an excellent way to become a Net-Zero community.
Where does Terralta fit in?
At Terralta, we are proud to be one of the qualified installers for solar panels for the AMSP rebates. That’s how we became involved with Raymond’s recent solar project. Our knowledge paired with their forward-thinking initiatives allowed their municipality to become the first net-zero community in Alberta.
The amount of energy being created from these solar panels can be enough to fuel your entire community, plus some!
With government funding, such as Alberta Municipal Solar Program (AMSP), the big investment for this project can be offset with rebates based on wattage. This can be a huge financial assistance for small communities to make this progressive and sustainable change.
Throughout the entire process, from consultation to design to installation, we made ourselves available to offer constant support and advice in order to help get this important community project rolling. It required a lot of dedicated time and our experience shined through to the finish.
After the Raymond project was completed, Terralta owner, Marcus Campbell, presented the opportunity to also become net-zero to the town of Taber, Alberta.
“Taber is one of many municipalities in Southern Alberta that could easily follow Raymond’s lead and implement a path towards complete usage of a renewable energy source.

The town’s administration is currently in discussions and because there are more cost-effective solutions for solar panels becoming available every day, we are confident that they will be moving towards becoming net-zero through the use of solar panels in the very near future.

Our 15-plus years of experience in the solar energy industry will allow us to help aid this community, and many others, in determining the best solutions for optimal efficiency.
How does the funding work?
New grid-connected solar panel installations on municipally-owned buildings or land are eligible for the Alberta Municipality Solar Program. There are specific requirements that must be met including, but not limited to, the use of a qualified installer, minimum wattage, and warranties on both modules and inverters.
Only properties that have not received an incentive from another provincial solar incentive program can apply.
Rebates range from $0.55 per watt to $0.90 per watt. There is an additional $0.25 per watt for municipalities that have not previously participated in the AMSP for their first project. Those types of rebates can help offset the costs of the project and establish a timely return on investment for the community.
However, the AMSP funding will only be accepting applications until April 30, 2022, or until available funding is fully committed. We are here to help walk you through every step of the application process to ensure that your community is able to participate in this limited-time opportunity.
Terralta is proud to help other communities make the swap to renewable energy because we are proud to be a part of Southern Alberta! Take the first step toward sustainable change for your community and contact us today.
